Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Family owned since 2001.

Re-keys, lockouts, and car keys cut on Newport Avenue since 2001.

A local locksmith shop with two counters four minutes apart. Call and someone who does this every day will tell you what the job takes, what it costs, and whether you need us at all.

Cores

Interchangeable cores

A building keyed on IC cores can be re-keyed in minutes, with the hardware left on the doors. Best, Schlage and Arrow.

Levers

In the car

Some of it happens in the car

Column repairs, VATS keys remade, and keys cut by code when every original is gone. Bring the car, or call and ask first.

Three lanes, one shop

Homes, businesses and vehicles. All of it goes through the same two counters.

Most locksmiths pick one of these. A Better Locksmith has run all three since 2001, which is why a landlord, a body shop and somebody who has just lost the last key to a Toyota all end up calling the same number.

Mortise lock hardware being fitted into a residential door

Homes

Doors opened, locks re-keyed, deadbolts that actually throw

Doors opened and unlocked, broken keys pulled out of cylinders, new home re-keys the week you get the keys, and several locks brought onto one key so you carry one instead of five. Deadbolts, knobs and lock sets, jimmy proof sets, peepholes, patio and garage door locks, mail box locks. Schlage, Kwikset and Arrow.

Free estimates on all work, and a military, police and fire discount. If the door has been forced, the repair and the alignment are part of the same visit.

Residential locksmithing

Businesses

A building is a keying schedule, not a pile of locks

Master key and restricted key systems, interchangeable cores from Best, Schlage and Arrow, high security and commercial grade cylinders, panic bars, exit devices, Detex, door closers, mall gate locks and filing cabinet locks. Business openings, lockouts, lock repair and broken key removal. Bonded and insured.

Commercial locksmithing

Vehicles

Lost every key is the normal case, not the hard one

Original keys made from scratch, keys cut by code, lost keys remade, duplicates, laser keys, VATS keys, transponders, proximity keys and remote head keys. Remotes and remote start keys programmed. Car doors opened, broken keys removed, columns repaired, locks changed.

Two counters, four minutes apart

One shop, two doors you can walk into

Keys get cut at the counter while you wait. Locks come in to be re-pinned and go back out on the same key. Both numbers reach the same business, and the same people answer them.

Counter hours are Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. Lockouts do not keep those hours, so emergency service runs outside them.

What people say afterwards

Customers keep naming the same technician

A Better Locksmith holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating from 243 Google reviews. Read a page of them and a pattern shows up: people name Marcel, and they name him for the same two things, doing the work quickly and explaining it while he does it.

Sometimes a "small" problem can result in bigger ones. That's what happened to me. My first call happened to be A Better Locksmith where Marcel took ownership of my key FOB replacement, programming and getting my car up and running in NO time. ALL WITH A CALMNESS and kindness I hardly expected. The price was fair and equitable, my expectations, exceeded! Thanks Marcel. Donna

A+ job. Marcel was a super professional, timely, friendly, and did an excellent job. I had several lock sets re-keyed, and a few deadbolts added. Great work all around. Highly recommend!
Jeff Cormier, Google review
Marcel did amazing work replacing old locks and installing new deadbolts. He was very professional and informative
Luis Herrera, Google review
I came across A Better Locksmith after a few unanswered calls from some competitors, and he was at my house in 10 minutes (happened to be in the area). My electronic door locks died and I had been locked out. He got me back into my house quickly and for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely save their number for anything needed in the future! Great work!

Before you call

The questions the shop answers on the phone all day

Yes. The counters keep shop hours, Monday to Friday, eight to four, but lockouts do not, so the shop runs emergency service around the clock for doors and vehicles. Call (401) 475-8007 and say where you are and what you are locked out of. If the fix is something you can do yourself in two minutes, we will tell you that on the phone.

Yes. Losing the last key is the normal case, not the hard one. Original keys are made from scratch, cut by code where the code is available, and transponder, VATS, laser, proximity and remote head keys are all programmed at the shop. A Better Locksmith is associated with NASTF, the National Automotive Service Task Force, which is how a locksmith gets legitimate access to vehicle key and security information.

Usually re-keyed. If the hardware is sound and only the key needs to change hands, the cylinders are re-pinned to a new key and the locks stay on the door. That is the cheaper answer and it is the one you will hear first. Several locks can be re-keyed to work off one single key at the same time, which is what most people actually want after moving in.
